About Emily Brown NottSinging
In a world that often asks us to perform, NottSinging offers something different: a place to simply be.
Founded in the heart of Nottinghamshire, NottSinging began with a simple idea — that singing can be a powerful tool for connection, not just performance. Led by Emily Brown, a passionate facilitator of community and voice, these groups welcome women into a space where every voice is valued, and no one is judged.
There are no auditions, no spotlights, and no pressure. Just voices rising together in harmony, laughter, and sometimes quiet. Whether it’s a mother humming with her child, a woman rediscovering her voice after years of silence, or a group sharing songs around a circle — NottSinging is about belonging.
We believe that singing is a birthright, not a talent. That when we sing together, we remember who we are. We reconnect — to ourselves, to each other, and to something deeper.
At NottSinging, we don’t sing to impress.
We sing to connect.
We sing to heal.
We sing to remember.
Singing Groups
Singers of all abilities are welcome, without judgement or audition, to experience the joys of harmony singing. Emily works to this ethos and invites you to "celebrate the voice you are born with". (Frankie Armstrong). In Emily's singing groups you'll be introduced to a wide variety of music from across the ages and around the world. There is no sheet music, and songs are taught through accessible methods.
Singing in harmony is a communal art form and a life-affirming experience. You are guaranteed to enjoy a sense of connection with others, peace and joy in your heart, whilst lighting up multiple areas of the brain.
SWingers - Southwell Women Singers
Emily works to the ethos that everyone is entitled to sing and that people who sing together laugh together. Southwell Women Singers is for all women.
Perhaps you are one of these:
I love to sing in the shower or in the car
I'd like to try a new hobby
I'm a bit nervous about my voice
The last time I sang was at school
I'm looking for an opportunity to join an activity for fun, health, friendship and community connection.
Singing Mamas
Singing Mamas sessions are designed to build connection and community through song with the purpose of supporting perinatal women. Bumps, babies, little ones and bigger ones all welcome, but being a mum is not essential - women at all stages of life are welcome. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and so many of us are lacking that support network in today’s society. Singing Mamas is a place to find genuine connection and friendship.
It’s all about making YOU feel good. There are no auditions, no solos, no reading music. Just simple songs taught by ear. I sing the songs line by line and the group will echo it back, until everyone knows it off by heart and then harmony might be added.
Take a breath, find your voice, connect with others
